Rocky Start to Season in Colorado

Rockies fan sues MLB team over foul ball that led to injuries ⚾️

The season has gotten off to a Rocky start in Colorado. Literally.

The Rockies sit at 8-40 and are on pace to finish 27-135 — twelve games worse than last year’s disastrous White Sox’s team.

In addition to taking L’s on the field, Colorado’s MLB team is facing additional hurdles off the field.

According to a lawsuit filed on Monday in Colorado state court, a fan is suing the Rockies for injuries sustained while at a game in 2023.

Here’s a breakdown of the six-page complaint:

Parties

Plaintiff (on offense): Timothy Roeckel, a Colorado resident

Defendant (on defense): Colorado Rockies Baseball Club, LTD

Allegations

Out of the 30 allegations Plaintiff makes, here are some of the ones that stick out:

  • the alleged incident occurred at a Rockies v. Yankees game on July 16, 2023 game

  • plaintiff was injured during a foul ball in the bottom of the first

  • the foul ball struck plaintiff directly in the right eye and face

  • the foul ball was obscured by architectural elements of the stadium, including the ceiling of the luxury box and the overhang of the bleacher seats
